Loyal counters on hundreds of shorebird sites

Two weeks ago a loyalty program was announced for committed birdwatchers of the Global Shorebird Counting. A registration was opened for those who think it is worth to participate in the Global Shorebird Counting every year and contribute to something unique and exciting by simply watching and counting shorebirds.

The prize list is already very impressive but it will be even more exciting due to new partner- and sponsorship. Some of us are motivated by the mission of this global initiative, some are by the prizes but quite a few of us are just love being part of a citizen science program to support shorebird conservation. What is a better achievement of our efforts than seeing a traditional shorebird hunter in the Caribbean hanging his gun on the wall in honour of World Shorebirds Day? World Shorebirds Day has already motivated hundreds of birdwatchers and a good number of organisations and this number is just growing.

img_3039With the Faithful Counters program we aim to have a large network of birdwatchers linked to hundreds of shorebird migration staging/wintering areas in the world. While the more sites a counter register the better chances he or she has to win one of the stunning prizes, it is more important to have quality datasets from the same sites every year.

Come and join us and register your site(s). Please visit our announcement page here. Note, if you have shorebird records from any of the days between 2–6 September 2016, you can still submit your records and share it with worldshorebirdsday username via eBird (technical help is here). If you join from next year only, you still can win some of the prizes but you exclude yourself winning the main prize.
