Introducing World Shorebirds Day’s New Ambassador

image World Shorebirds Day is delighted to announce that young ornithologist, conservationist and writer, 12 year old Mya-Rose Craig AKA Birdgirl, has chosen to be our Ambassador, championing our initiative and our mission.

Mya-Rose first came to prominence in the 2010 BBC Four documentary “Twitchers: A Very British Obsession” when a delightful 7 year old was seen birding around the UK with her parents. She is still an avid birder both at home and abroad, last year becoming the youngest person to see 3,500 birds. She has written in her Birdgirl Blog about her love of shorebirds and her desire to save them and their habitats. Mya-Rose has a special love for the Spoon-billed Sandpiper, our Shorebird of the Year.

imageTo celebrate the partnership, Birdgirl will be writing guest blogs about her reasons for choosing to champion World Shorebirds Day and her thoughts on saving Spoon-billed Sandpiper.

Mya-Rose, who has just been chosen as one of ’24 Influential Bristolians Under 24′ by Rife Magazine, will speak out for World Shorebirds Day throughout 2015. More information about the partnership with the Birdgirl will be announced the blog later.

  1. HI Gyorgy,

Very exciting! I’m leading an education program in San Rafael, CA with 4th-6th graders connecting them with wetland habitat in their community. The 6th graders are Ambassadors for the program—spreading the word about the value of habitats, birds and habitat restoration. I wonder if Mya-Rose would be interested in talking with them about her passions? Maybe we could set up a Skype or phone call.

Thanks for all your amazing efforts with World Shorebirds Day.

    • It is a very good idea. One of the targets of partnering with Mya-Rose to get like-minded young conservationists together and to build up a network for effective worldwide actions. I would have a chat with you about this. I’m looking forward to extend our partnership. 🙂
